CSFF Blog Tour: The Spirit Well by Stephen R. Lawhead -Review

This month, the CSFF Blog Tour is featuring The Spirit Well by Stephen R. Lawhead. The Spirit Well is the third book in the Bright Empires series. If you'd like to read my review of The Skin Map, the first book in the series, you can find it here. My review of the second book, The Bone House, can be found here.
The Spirit Well picks up where The Bone House left off. I won't say much about the plot for fear of spoiling it for those who haven't read the other two books yet. However, I will say that it involves ley lines, travel across space and time, and the search for an unusual map that is said to lead to the mysterious Spirit Well.
What I really liked about The Spirit Well is that it started to become more clear how various characters, places, and events in the books were related to each other. Some of my favorite stories are the ones where everything turns out to be connected. It's starting to look like the Bright Empires series is going to be one of those stories.
It bothered me that a few plot threads seemingly got dropped before they had been resolved. But I guess that's the nature of ley travel. The characters are sometimes pulled from a world or time without warning, leaving unfinished business behind them. I suppose real life can be like that sometimes too. Hopefully anything important will be picked up and tied back in by the end of the final book. I trust Stephen R. Lawhead to handle the many pieces well.
Revisiting characters I'd come to like and know in the first two books was fun. They were further developed in The Spirit Well and I got to see more of what drives them. A few new characters were also introduced, and they were all unique and interesting. Mina is still my favorite though. I like her common sense, bravery, and kindness.
I can't believe I'll have to wait for two more books before I find out how this all ends. I was frustrated with the wait, but then I realized that my impatience was a sign of a good story. Stephen R. Lawhead's Bright Empires series has me hooked.
If you like history, science fiction, and multiple realities, you should read this book. But first you should read the ones that come before it. I have a feeling you'll get pulled into the story just like I was.
If you'd like to read what other people on the CSFF Blog Tour are saying about The Spirit Well, you can find links to their blogs on the right of the page.
In conjunction with the CSFF Blog Tour, I received a free copy of this book from the publisher.
